Greg Ryan

Position: Chaplain
Hometown: Somerset, KY

September 2018
Hospice of Lake Cumberland is proud to recognize Greg Ryan. Greg works as a full-time chaplain and is completing his 28th year of service. He recalls starting in 1990 when Hospice was a much smaller organization. It consisted of seven employees and served only five counties at that time. Interestingly, Greg mentioned the census during that time period was around sixteen patients.

Greg described a number of things that have changed with Hospice over the years, but one thing that has remained consistent is his passion for the mission of Hospice. The holistic nature of Hospice continues to drive Greg in his work daily and his love for people. Greg said, “I delight in being able to help people experience peace and comfort during life’s final season.” Greg highlighted the greatest part of being a chaplain is sharing God’s message of grace with people.

In addition to working as a chaplain, Greg teaches a World Religion course at Somerset Community College. Greg began his pursuit of higher education at The Ohio State University and completed his undergraduate degree at the campus in Mansfield, Ohio. After his coursework in Ohio, he moved to Kentucky and furthered his schooling at Asbury College. While at Asbury Greg earned a B.A. in Religion and Philosophy as well as a Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Seminary. Furthermore, Greg continued his educational endeavors at Trinity College and University in Evansville where he earned a Doctorate of Ministry. Greg Ryan is one educated individual!

Greg is married to his wife Mary Ann. He enjoys watching sports, especially the Cleveland Indians along with a bevy of college sporting events. One little known fact about Greg is that he enjoys 70’s music. He really likes groups like Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Eagles, and Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young.
