Camp Promise

Every year, as we reflect on the families we’ve had the privilege to serve, we’re reminded that each patient, no matter how brief their time with us, becomes a cherished part of our extended family. At Hospice of Lake Cumberland, our commitment extends beyond providing care; we aspire to preserve memories and offer unwavering support to grieving families, particularly to the children who bear the weight of loss.

Camp Promise is a precious gift where staff, board members, and volunteers unite to contribute to the healing journey. As campers bring their swimsuits, they also carry a multitude of questions. Amidst activities and a shared environment, a sense of safety emerges, allowing emotions to unfurl. The camp becomes a sanctuary where children, facing similar losses, find solace and the freedom to commence their healing.

The stories shared during camp are often recent and poignant, revealing the depth of young hearts grappling with grief. Volunteers witness profound moments, like a child comforting a peer grappling with the whereabouts of a deceased parent. Even amid challenging questions, the bereavement camp becomes a conduit for healing, offering diverse paths to comfort.

The culmination of Camp Promise is a joy to behold as children leave with a sense of closure, having navigated a range of emotions that they may not have known how to express initially. The shared experience with peers who’ve walked similar paths adds a unique layer to the healing process.

In the intricate tapestry of grief support, it takes a village to create a safe and meaningful camp. To all who contribute to Camp Promise, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your involvement is a beacon of hope for the children we serve, fostering healing in myriad ways.
